Voice Provenance

When a voice is heard, what does it establish about who spoke?

A COMMODYN research line on message, messenger, provenance, AI, accountability and receiver inference.

The research object

This is broader than style or performance.

Voice Provenance examines the relationship between the message, the voice that renders it, the person or organisation it appears to come from, and the evidence available to a receiver. AI makes that relationship more urgent. It does not make the answer self-evident.

Opening questions

What has to be distinguished?

  1. 01

What evidence connects a rendered voice to a speaker, author, director or organisation?

  2. 02

What can a receiver observe, what might the receiver plausibly infer, and what remains unknown?

  3. 03

What changes when a voice can be generated, cloned or directed independently of the apparent speaker?

  4. 04

Where does accountability sit when message, voice and apparent messenger come from different sources?

Current boundary

This page opens a research line. It does not present a completed model.

Evidence, definitions and claim boundaries have to be established before a conceptual position can be treated as settled.
