Communication, evidence and the decisions we make

Sending a message does not tell us where it landed.

THE BRIEF

Managers need to communicate the new operating model.

The book

Where Messages Land is being developed as a book.

Not as a communication manual, but as an investigation into what has already happened before a message reaches communication, what changes during handover, and what can no longer be controlled once it reaches the receiver.

It follows a simple question:

What do we actually know about where a message lands, and what are we merely inferring?

The book follows that question from the decisions and assumptions that shape a message before communication begins, through the sender’s choices, to the point where meaning is no longer theirs to control.

If everyone understood perfectly, could they have done it?

That question changes the diagnosis.

If the answer is no, clearer communication may still matter. But understanding is not the whole constraint.
